ICT Skills Shortage Conference

The unemployment rate is at a record 3.6% and the number of job vacancies in ICT continues to climb. According to a 2006 Department of Labour survey, 118 out of 134 specialist IT areas are experiencing acute skills shortages but the number of students enrolled for IT degrees has fallen a dramatic 44 percent in four years.

Many Chief Information Officers and IT managers are forced to search internationally for skilled workers, while at home Contact Centre Managers struggle to fill empty seats. Yet even during a skills crisis no employer can afford to make a poor recruitment decision. It’s estimated that an inexperienced contact centre agent costs $10,000 to recruit and train, and that’s not counting their salary.

This is why TUANZ has put together a one-day conference specifically for Chief Information Officers, IT Managers and Contact Centre Managers. It will outline the key government initiatives in this area and provide professional managers with practical solutions to the skills crisis that they can implement the next day in their workplace.

The TUANZ ICT Skills Shortage Conference 2007 in association with Drake New Zealand and Madison Recruitment.

Tamaki Yacht Club in Mission Bay, Auckland on Tuesday 6 November.
