TUANZ Board members

Pat O’Connell – Chairman
Pat is CIO of the Rank Group, based in Auckland. The Rank Group is a private company with extensive manufacturing interests worldwide. Pat has worked in and around the IT industry all his working life, in various roles, formerly technical, now less so, as he gets older and smarter. His career has also seen him a mainframe systems programmer, a principle consultant with Ernst & Young, and CIO for Carter Holt Harvey. He has two daughters at various universities, and enjoys running, squash and swimming, and sometimes a bit of climbing. He holds an MBA from Australia’s Southern Cross University.
Pat O’Connell has served as a TUANZ board member since 2006 and as TUANZ Chair since 2010.
Richard Anderson - Board Member
Rich Anderson currently serves as Head of Strategy and Planning for Westpac New Zealand. He has 26 years of experience in IT strategy, IT architecture, technology operations, complex system delivery projects and consulting leadership.  Prior to this, he was Head of Technology Services, responsible for IT operations, development, testing and architecture, DBS Managing Director for Group Solution Delivery in Singapore, Vice President of Akili’s Telecommunications and Emerging Markets consulting practices and a partner in Ernst & Young’s management consulting practice serving middle-market, high-growth companies where he served as the US national leader of Ernst & Young’s Technology, Communication and Entertainment practice.  Rich is a graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA in 1983 with a B.S. degree in Computer Sciences. He was nominated to the TUANZ Board in 2010.
John Crisp – Board member
John Crisp is Telecommunications Manager with Transpower. John started his career in telecommunications as a linesman for New Zealand Post in 1978, and has since held various roles with national and international organisations; Samoatel Ltd (Samoa), TelstraClear, Gooder Ltd, Nippon Telecommunications Consulting Co Ltd (Sri Lanka). Working for the Japanese Overseas Economic Co-operation Fund) and Telecom New Zealand.
John has been on the TUANZ Board since 2009.
Kevin Drinkwater – Treasurer
Kevin Drinkwater is CIO at Mainfreight and has over 25 years in the IT industry and over 20 years with Mainfreight creating and implementing new and innovative business systems as well as dealing with telecommunications companies. His role involves a significant amount of travel which enables him to observe technology in many different countries and companies. Kevin is also vice chairman of SPCA Auckland, having been a director since 2002, and is a member of the board of Duffy Books in Homes USA.
Kevin has been on the TUANZ Board since 2008 and Treasurer since 2010.
David Gatland – Board Member
David Gatland is Director Corporate Services, Whakatane District Council. Prior to this David was General Manager of Information Technology at Transpower New Zealand, where he was instrumental in transforming the IT division into a service-focused organisation. Before this he had a senior role at Fonterra, responsible for the Australasian Information Technology Infrastructure Services delivery. David has also led IT and engineering service delivery in the emergency services, telecommunications and media industries.
David has been on the TUANZ Board since 2005 and has also served as Treasurer.
Chris O’Connell – Board Member
Chris O’Connell is Director of Strategy for Radar Guidance, an ICT driven marketing, communications and economic development consultancy. He is closely involved in the facilitation of the Nelson Marlborough Inforegion, an initiative designed to ensure that people in these provinces have the best possible ICT infrastructure. In a marketing career spanning more than 20 years, Chris has worked at the strategic level for a variety of clients, including Mitsubishi Motors, New Zealand Post, Toyota and Stuff.
Chris has been on the TUANZ Board since 2005 and served as Chair from 2008-2010.
Antony Royal – Board Member
Antony is a Trustee of Te Huarahi Tika Trust (Māori Spectrum Trust) and a board member of Hautaki Ltd, which has investments in 2Degrees Mobile. He was born in Auckland and brought up in the Hutt Valley, completing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Auckland University. Antony has had a range of positions both overseas and locally in the ICT sector for both the government and private entities. This included projects with a number of Government Ministries in the Finance, Health and Education sectors. He has also been a tutor with Te Wānanga o Raukawa, and implemented programmes that led to the provision of computers and training for every student at the Wānanga, a programme that still runs, 11 years later.
Previously, Antony has been the Chairperson of the Māori Information and Technology and Telecommunications Council and a member of the Digital Development Council, both providing policy advice to government.
Antony was elected to the TUANZ Board in 2011.
Bruce Turner – Board member
Bruce Turner is Telecommunications/ICT Marketing Manager at Aurecon New Zealand (formerly Connell Wagner) and has been involved in the ICT industry for 25 years with extensive experience in communications systems and cabling solutions. He has been on the TUANZ Board since 2008 is also an active member of BICSI, an international professional association supporting the information transport systems industry. He has been on the Board of Directors of BICSI South Pacific for the last two years and for the last year has been the Board Chairman.
Bruce has been on the TUANZ Board since 2008.
Tony Wickstead – Board member
Tony has extensive experience in operations, business development, supply chain and service management, strategic business planning, change and project management. His most recent appointment was as Chief Executive at global technology company; “Tomizone Limited”, New Zealand owned company competing in the global marketplace selling wireless internet solutions. 
Prior to this, he had 5 years service with Auckland Airport as their Chief Information Officer and has more than 15 years experience in executive roles within the technology and telecommunications industry, in Australia and New Zealand, most recently with Ernst and Young, along with tenures at Kodak Australia, NCR Australia and BellSouth, New Zealand.
Tony has been on the TUANZ Board since 2009.
Doug Wilson – Secretary
Doug Wilson is the CIO of The New Zealand Automobile Association. An IT industry veteran, his career began at Massey and Waikato Universities helping to set up their initial information systems. In the early 1980s he joined Wang (now gen-i), where he held a number of roles, including CEO. Doug has also been CEO of Gateway (a PC company), APL+ (a Provenco software company), and has held senior roles at Microsoft and EDS.
Doug has been on the TUANZ Board since 2007 and Secretary since 2010.
