TUANZ Innovations Awards 2008 – Winners

The winners of the TUANZ Innovation Awards 2008, in association with General Cable, were announced at a glittering ceremony in Auckland last night. The Awards are a marquee event in the telecommunications sector, a chance for the industry to get together and celebrate inventive and groundbreaking initiatives.

Judges Comments:
TracPlus is an innovation in tracking that provides for situational awareness. The system rises above all proprietary systems. TracPlus can support any OEM terminal that allows customers to mix and match from multiple manufacturers and networks.

TUANZ Mobile Application of the Year Award
Altaine, for Q JMP























Judges Comments:
Overcoming obstacles faced by small businesses with limited IT resources, Altaine has produced a multi-channel solution to mobile marketing for Subways, Q JMP quick service restaurants.

TUANZ Education Award
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, for the Incubator Programme























Judges Comments:
The Incubator Programme is a unique program delivering a distinctive mix of smart media applications to senior secondary school students. It encompasses adult learning, coaching and ICT methodologies with health literacy as a focus.

TUANZ Healthcare Award
Healthphone Solutions Limited, for HME-STOMP























Judges Comments:
HME-STOMP (Healthphone Messaging Engine - Stop Smoking Over Mobile Phone), is a SMS text-based mobile cessation point of care that provides a low cost solution. Developed as an entirely new service offering, Healthphone are launching in the US and have expressions of interest from Canada, Singapore and Australia.

Judges Comments:
TracMap is a GPS guidance system especially suited for hill country farming, control of fertilizer application, irrigation systems in horticulture and viticulture applications. There are high benefits for environmental compliance.

TUANZ Local & Central Government Services Award
Accessware, for E-Govt Validator























Judges Comments:
The E-Govt Validator identifies compliance and warnings to enable people with disabilities equal access to government websites. The Validator makes the complex simple and is open source. Since November 2007 over 4500 web pages have been checked.

TUANZ Commerce Award
Kiwibank, for Mobile Internet Banking























Judges Comments:
Kiwibank’s Mobile Internet Banking, picked up on the launch of the iPhone. It adapts web based technology direct to your iPhone. Customer co-creation was used to enhance the features. Kiwibank has a first in the world for mobile banking.

TUANZ Telecommunications Journalist of the Year
Jenny Keown, The Independent























Judges Comments:
Jenny Keown produced a number of incisive reports on complex telecommunications issues. Writing for the independent, issues covered included Mobile termination rates, predatory pricing and the difficulty of getting objective information from the large Telco's.

Grace Xue, Who Stole My Money























Judges Comments:
The Judges were provided with a number of Innovative projects from entrants who have considerable skills as Innovators. Pulling together a number of languages and technologies, the winner is Grace Xue Who Stole My Money.

Judges Comments:
The 21st century student has lived a lifetime in the digital world, they ‘have’ a right to participate. When networks become more powerful then your computers the game shifts. The Loop has allowed the digital classroom to be plugged into the world.
