BROADBAND FINDEROne clear message that was taken from the TUANZ Rural Braodband Symoposium 2011 is that the rural community want broadband coverage extended even further than the current boundaries of the RBI.
MED is optimistic that they can still go further in our rural coverage. Telecom and Vodafone agree that savings from the RBI roll out will be redeployed into more broadband coverage. What they now need to do is to find out where the main areas of need are.
MED has built a Registration of Interest function into the Broadband Finder widget so that people who don’t get covered by the RBI can put their hand up to be considered for future expansion of coverage. It is not guarantee that all locations will get coverage but it’s a first step towards finding innovative solutions to provide broadband to those areas.

RURAL BROADBAND SYMPOSIUMNew Zealand’s rural sector is the backbone of our economy, yet rural New Zealand as a place to live is in decline. This year’s TUANZ Rural Broadband Symposium will pose the question: what would it take to encourage New Zealanders to live and work remotely? We’ll explore the issues stopping rural regeneration and what we can learn from our international partners. In particular, the symposium will provide a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between broadband providers and rural users and to explore opportunities for collaboration.
