Doing more with what we've got

Doesn't it all feel a bit surreal? Here all are, sitting at our desks and trying to forecast and plan for 2009 and beyond while the world's economic foundations seem to be in the midst of a force 10 quake.
Bernice Archer of our TUANZ team was at an international contact centre conference a few weeks ago. She reported back that the theme she picked up from delegates was that everyone expects to have to do more with what they've got. They weren't predicting a flash year ahead in terms of budgets and capex. Their purpose in being at the conference was to look for ways to leverage existing human capital and investment better. To "do more with what we've got."
And that was pre-meltdown!
Maybe that's got to be the theme in IT for a while. We can all make a great case at any time to spend more, but if we're honest there is a lot of scope in most enterprises to eke out better performance from our established structures and resources.
My bet is that the well-supported TUANZ events next year will be those that focus on better use of existing resources, rather than a whole swag of new investment. Certainly it’s a message that we at TUANZ have taken well aboard.
