TUANZ is pleased to welcome Voco on board as Premier Sponsor of the 2009 TUANZ Innovation Awards, which are being hosted in partnership with IDC New Zealand.

Voco joins eight award sponsors, whose support will ensure that these prestigious annual awards will once again be a true celebration of Kiwi innovation and ingenuity in telecommunications.

The awards sponsors are: 2Degrees Mobile, Alcatel-Lucent, Kelly Professional & Technical, Kordia, Motorola, the Telecommunications Carriers’ Forum, Telecom Wholesale and Vector Communications.

Voco principal Michael Foley says the company is delighted to be the premier sponsor of this year’s awards, adding this is the time when the telecommunications industry needs to have a future focus.

“Sure the recessionary conditions are making business generally tougher, but the telecommunications industry is a fundamental cornerstone of a thriving New Zealand in an increasingly global economy and now more than at any time must over-perform.

“We see, and are fortunate to work with, a lot of smart people doing smart things across the telecommunications user spectrum and that reinforces our belief that it is innovation, that smart stuff, that will see ‘NZ Inc.’ come out of the global recession in a stronger position than when we went in.

“This is THE important stuff, and it needs to be encouraged, recognised and celebrated!”

The 2009 TUANZ Innovation Awards feature 13 award categories, as well as the overall TUANZ Telecommunications Innovation Award, presented by Vector Communications.

A call for entries for the awards was issued last month. The closing date for entries is Thursday, 16 July and finalists will be announced on Monday, 3 August.

The awards will be presented at a black-tie ceremony at the SkyCity Convention Centre on Thursday, 3 September 2009.
