In memorium - Sergio Antocicco

Professor Sergio Antocicco, Chairman of INTUG - the International Telecommunications Users Group of which TUANZ is a member - died earlier this week.

Sergio missed last week's INTUG meeting in Brussels because he was undergoing surgery in Rome on the first day - exactly a week ago this afternoon. Then on the second day of the meeting, everyone was delighted when he phoned in from the hospital. He seemed to be in fine form, reporting the operation to have been successful. So it was a big shock today to learn of his passing.

I've known Sergio for as long as I've been associated with TUANZ. When I stepped down as INTUG Chairman in 2005. Sergio was the obvious candidate to hand over to given his presence and his long experience leading the Italian user group, ANUIT. He was both a humble man and very generous of spirit.

The condolences of TUANZ will be conveyed to Sergio's family. RIP.

Thank you Ernie for this excellent obituary. I am shocked and very sad to hear of Sergio's passing. I have just seen a similar article in the CMA e-newsletter but I wanted to know if you had published a more comprehensive piece. Thank you and I know he would have laughed at your words - he was as you said, a humble man with a very generous spirit. He was also very widely respected in the world of ICT. He will be greatly missed by thousands of his colleagues, students and his friends. I spoke to him in January and he sounded so full of life.

Every 31st January, because Italy is one hour ahead of the UK, he sent me a text to say "A very Happy New Year with love Sergio" and I will treasure the one I received at the beginning of this year. as for some reason I saved it.

    Best regards
    Vivienne
