Today's Business Herald asks twelve business leaders questions about 2008 including "what will be the defining business issue" and "what will be the year's big technological advance."
Three of the twelve have named "Broadband."
BNZ Chief Economist Tony Alexander says "maybe decent broadband speeds for NZ users."
Mark Thomas of Right Hemisphere describes "universal, low cost, high bandwidth, always on Internet access for all" as the defining business issue for 2008.
Steve Crow, boss of Vixen Direct, names "world class high speed broadband and the associated ability to truly stream high-definition video."
Crow, admittedly, dilutes his case marginally by also asking for remote controlled vibrating condoms.
We've come a very long way since TUANZ seemed to be alone asking for all this stuff. If the Herald runs this next year, lets hope none of the twelve name broadband because we are way down the track.
Incidentally, among the 9 who didn't touch on broadband was ex-Telecom Theresa Gattung. Her aspiration is for government to stop intervening and regulating and give industries and companies time to adjust.
