After much hype, and a massive launch party, Vodafone has pulled its first Google Android phone from the New Zealand market.
However, the company has not yet stated where this leaves users in terms of support for the HTC Magic handsets, which run on Google’s new Android mobile operating system.
Earlier today, I posed specific questions to Vodafone on where the withdrawal of the product leaves current users, but received no response.
The media has not had much better luck getting an answer from Vodafone either.
Computerworld reports Vodafone spokesman Paul Brislen saying: "Having a bit of an issue — apologies to all. Not a technical issue... hope to have it back on board shortly.
"That’s all I can say."
And New Zealand Herald states that Brislen said that the phone's sudden absence was due to a "commercial issue that Vodafone is having" but declined to give any details.
Meanwhile the NBR carries comment from HTC.
While TUANZ has not had any reports from users yet about concerns over the product’s sudden disappearance, we are keen to know if Vodafone remains committed to supporting units already sold here (as well those given away in an elaborate marketing campaign).
