Another Telecom outage!

Doug Wilson, CIO of the Automobile Association and TUANZ Board member, writes in frustration as follows:

"Telecom had another brief outage yesterday around lunchtime. We and I presume others lost phones for three minutes – I know that doesn’t sound long but we run an emergency service - and we have bought every service that Telecom sells to give us total resilience but they still have failures like this and the broadband one the other day."

Now Doug is a pretty tolerant guy and doesn't complain lightly.

Were other TUANZ members affected? Tell us.

Maybe somebody from Telecom can say what went wrong (again) and what they have implemented to make sure it won't happen again. Come on guys, we know you read this blog.

Yes, a software fault caused a brief outage for some Telecom customers at lunchtime yesterday. We apologise sincerely to Mr Wilson and other customers whose operations were impacted. We have been in touch directly with Mr Wilson to see how this can be better handled in the future.

Thanks Mark, Doug will apprecioate that. Bear in mind that with big users, outages can be highly problematic, often requiring re-booting of user equipment with ramifications that ripple along for quite a while.
