Catching up on old friends

Thanks to the government, I'm having a great week talking to old friends.

Its not intentional. You see, the government introduced the ban on hand-held cell phones in cars. My hands-free was unsatisfactory so i invested in a new Blueant Supertooth 3 which clings to the sun visor, plays really nicely with the Blackberry, and works just fine.

Fine, except for the data/voice conversion which can be a lottery on a bad day.  I dont know whether the woman inside the Supertooth is dense, or I mumble, or the car is too noisy, or what. But I'm getting wrong numbers one after the other.

Take this morning. I wanted to leave a voicemail message on my land line so I asked it for "Ernie Newman."

Back came the response "Do you mean Cindy Newman?" Understandable mistake, but no.

"Do you mean Jenny Keown?" No.

"Do you mean Denise Hansen?" Duh!

On the next try, before I could stop her, she rang Simon Riley.

Anyway, that teething problem aside I can recommend the Supertooth. The female voice is maddening - she sounds like a really cold fish - not like the sweet young Irish maid hidden in my GPS who I've secretly fallen in love with. But the Supertooth one 's at least patient and tolerant. I've shouted some seriously strong language at her yet she doesn't rise to the bait - just says calmly "no match found."

So this is a timely reminder. Have you got your hands free sorted? Your family’s? Your staff’s?

Its the law now, and it makes a lot of sense.
