Huge leap in public awareness of telecommunications issues

Public awareness about the increasingly crucial economic role of communications technology, and the crying need for New Zealand to lift our act, has never been higher in my experience.
Part of my role involves promoting public understanding of the issues dear to the heart of TUANZ. This involves periodical outside speaking commitments.
Last night, for example, I gave a presentation to the Remuera Rotary Club. Once again I was flabbergasted at the depth of the questioning - really insightful probing into the depth of the issues that could have gone on all night. And afterwards it seemed everyone had a personal problem to seek advice on - be it their home broadband connection, problems with cell phones in the Coromandel, or an unresolved business constraint arising from unsatisfactory telecommunications.
Its no wonder the parliament's decisive policy actions last December had universal acceptance. The men and women in New Zealand streets know there is a major problem to fix.
