Telecom adusts prices for gst increase

Subscribe To RSSRSS

Telecom is advertising new charges to reflect the government's increase in GST from 12.5% to 15%.

With some plans the prices are up by around 2.5%. In others' they're absorbing the increase - reducing the price of the service so that the GST-inclusive price remains the same, or rounding the price up or down to arrive at a sensible price point.

They're among the first businesses to advertise new prices flowing from the GST increase.

No doubt some people will get excited about it. I'm not. Wait until you see other sectors of the economy impose their new prices - supermarkets for example. There'll be all kinds of subterfuge. Telecom at least is being up front about what its doing, and there's no sign of profiteering.

No further comment on this from TUANZ - much bigger fish to fry here.

    Hello Ernie,
Firstly, thank you for your continuous efforts to try & bring the Telecommunications industry to fair pricing levels. On that note I have just received my new call rates from Telstraclear & my one frustration is why are we to be charged 25cents per minute for National Calls yet we can be on their Ztalk0505 program & I can call the USA for 9cents per minute? This seems to defy logic when considering distances per call. Additionally we cannot call 800 numbers in the USA unless we incur a TOLL call rate via Telecom. If youa re already aware of the items I have stated I hope I have not imposed on to much of your time. Again thank you for your continuing efforts, much appreciated. Kind Regards, John

You mentioned Telecom are rounding prices to arrive at a sensible price point.
For Aucklanders on a homeline plan, they are rounding up nearly an entire dollar meaning instead of being charged $43.06 a month they will get charged $44.00.
Very sneaky "rounding" if you ask me.
