Yellow Pages - a Plea to Telecom

Please, please, please Telecom.

Congratulations! You have done well to generate truckloads of money from the very successful Yellow Pages business.

Flush with all that cash, this is your moment to re-gain the trust and confidence of New Zealanders - your core customers.

You know, better than we do, that you have under-prepared your network for the Internet age. You know that a generation of tech-savvy Kiwis are champing at the bit for high speed, high quality broadband services. Services essential to the economic prosperity of the nation, as well as the productivity and lifestyles of individual New Zealanders and their children.

Your customers have demonstated that they will pay for good quality services if only you will provide them. For example, they paid, in droves, for "Go Large" but you had to give their money back! Not good for you, and even worse for us. There is a heap of pent-up demand once the capacity of the network catches up.

Now is your moment of truth. The Yellow Pages business has made its money in New Zealand from satisfied, loyal Kiwi customers. There is a crying need to invest in the interest of those same customers.

Before you go investing off shore, remember your home base. This will be a defining moment in your relationship with the New Zealanders who have helped you to prosperity, but who now look to you to ensure their future needs are met. They'll be watching with great interest.
