When I was down in the beautiful south earlier this year, I was lucky enough to visit the Dunedin City Council Contact Centre and was hosted by William Robertson, who is the manager of the council's Customer Services Agency. This means he looks after the contact centre, the front reception area, and any other customer services related jobs.
Not only did I get a tour of William's work area, he also took my on a driving tour of Dunedin to show me the sights and sounds of Dunedin (yes, it was my first trip down in Dunedin!). Anyway, it was interesting to hear what call types came through their 0800 number.
They dispatch animal control officers, look after the liaison desk for Bbuilding inspectors, talk to rate payers regarding the parks and reserves, library services, parking, water and waste and everything in between.
And to add to that the staff are rostered on to man the front desk of the city council as well, they certainly are the face and voice of front line customer services for the council.
I have a new appreciation of what local government contact centres have to deal with and how they go about it.
I would like to thank them for their hospitality and for the sunny weather they provided on my first trip to Dunedin. To check out the Dunedin City Council Contact Centre profile - click here
